Spending less but borrowing to do so

-

ALMOST half of Scots are planning to spend less this Christmas than last year.

A poll of 1,862 Scottish adults for Citizens Advice Scotland (CAS) found 45 per cent will not spend as much this year.

The study also found that 16 per cent of those questioned are planning to pay for Christmas by taking on debt.

CAS financial health spokesman SarahJayne Dunn said: ‘What this polling shows is a sign of the impact Covid has had on household budgets across the country.

‘A significant amount of people plan to take on debt to pay for their Christmas and New Year. Our fear is many others will end up doing so, even if it isn’t their intention.

‘A New Year drowning in debt is just going to make things even worse.’
