- By Bethan Sexton

SIR Sean Connery died from heart failure and pneumonia, according to the late star’s death certificate.

The document, obtained by news website TMZ, reportedly shows the James Bond actor passed away in his sleep, aged 90, due to ‘respiratory failure’ brought on by the disease, his advanced age and a heart condition known as atrial fibrillation.

The coronary defect causes a fast and irregular heartbeat and can also l ead to an increased chance of heart failure and strokes.

Sir Sean died ‘peacefully’ at his home in the Bahamas on October 31, having been ‘ unwell f or s ome t i me’, according to his son Jason.

The report listed the iconic Scot, pictured, as married and his occupation as ‘retired actor’. Sir Sean is survived by his wife Micheline, 91, Jason, 57, and his three stepchildren, Oliver, Micha and Stephane.

The official cause of Sir Sean’s death has been revealed after his widow shared her hopes she could bring the Bond star ‘home’ to Scotland.

Micheline said: ‘We are going to bring Sean back to Scotland – that was his final wish. He wanted his ashes to be scattered in the Bahamas and also in his homeland.’

The family have yet to name the location where they will scatter Sir Sean’s ashes, though his native Edinburgh is thought to be a strong contender.
