10k turkeys culled in bird flu outbreak

-

MORE than 10,000 turkeys will be culled at a farm in North Yorkshire after a bird flu outbreak.

The Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs said avian influenza poses little risk to humans and should not impact the supplies of turkeys or other birds over Christmas.

All 10,500 birds at the site in Northallerton wil l be humanely killed to limit the spread of the virus, and a two-mile temporary control zone has been put in place.

It follows several outbreaks across the UK with cases also among geese and swans.
