Nuno: I saw panic in my team’s eyes

- By MATT BARLOW

WOLVES boss Nuno espirito Santo admitted he saw the panic in the eyes of his medical staff and instantly feared Raul Jimenez had suffered a serious head injury. The Mexico striker was hurt in an accidental clash of heads with David Luiz in the fifth minute of Wolves’ 2-1 win at Arsenal and immediately rushed to hospital for scans. ‘He’s conscious,’ said Nuno after the match. ‘He speaks, he’s aware. We need to have a proper assessment but he’s in good hands. ‘You start hearing “code red”, it is serious. it was a bad moment for everybody. You see panic in their eyes and you start thinking, “How is he?” We were worried.’ The game was goalless when Jimenez was hurt, but strikes by Pedro Neto and Daniel Podence secured Wolves’ first ever Premier League win at Arsenal. Captain Conor Coady said: ‘The first thing we asked is, “How’s Raul”. He is in hospital and by all accounts he’s ok. He’s breathing. it was a massive collision. ‘We knew straight away it was a horrible clash of heads. i was at the front, just behind him when it happened. it’s something we never want to see. We just hope and pray everything is ok.’ Luiz was patched up and continued, but had to be replaced at half-time. ‘David is ok,’ said Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta. ‘He has a nasty cut and he was conscious. He had a test and was completely fine. We were really worried for Raul Jimenez, because it was really nasty. ‘When you see the reaction of the players, you know something really bad is happening. We followed the protocol to check (Luiz) had not lost consciousness, which he hadn’t, and then did some tests. ‘They will continue to do some more checks on him. He was really uncomfortable and couldn’t head the ball and couldn’t continue.’ Wolves climbed to sixth with the win but Arsenal are languishing in 14th after five defeats in their first 10 games, their worst ever Premier League start. ‘it’s a really bad result,’ admitted Arteta. ‘We had our moments. We had a great reaction in the second half. The team showed desire but the goal didn’t arrive.’
