Three left dead after spate of accidents on roads

THREE people, including a 16-year- old girl, have died after a series of accidents on Scotland’s roads.

The teenager was struck on a busy road in Glasgow on Saturday evening. Witnesses reported seeing the girl being given emergency surgery on a grass verge next to Great Western Road.

A Police Scotland spokesman said: ‘officers were called to the incident, near to the junction of Garscadden Road, around 7.45pm after reports a pedestrian had been hit by a car.

‘The teenager was taken to the Queen Elizabeth university Hospital, where she passed away.’

one eyewitness posted on social media: ‘They were doing an emergency operation on the girl in middle of grass, getting drips into her, working on her.’

Sergeant Grant MacIver, of Police Scotland, said: ‘We are looking to speak to anyone who was in the area or has dashcam footage to get in touch.’

near Wick, Caithness, just before 2pm on Saturday.

The driver was taken to Wick General Hospital but could not be saved. The road was closed for nearly six hours for an investigat­ion to be carried out.

Sergeant Angus MacLeod of the Highlands and Islands Road Policing unit said: ‘I would ask if anyone has any dashcam footage that could assist with our investigat­ion that they come forward and speak to officers.’

Yesterday, a 74-year- old man died in hospital days after being struck by a van on the Kingston Bridge in Glasgow.

The pensioner had left his Toyota Corolla on the M8 eastbound, when he was stuck by a Mercedes Sprinter van at around 10am on Thursday. He was taken to the Queen Elizabeth university Hospital but police yesterday confirmed he had died.

The van driver, aged 30, was uninjured.
