Her attitude was off after an early glitch – I think she lost interest

- Interviews: SAMANTHA BRICK

DATING PAST?

I GOT married at 27, and we divorced eight years later because our lives were going in different directions. Since then I’ve had one six-month relationship.

PRE-DATE NERVES?

NO, BUT as I can get passionate when chatting, I worried I’d dominate the conversation. My mum wasn’t very happy about the blind date — she thinks there are better ways to find a partner.

FIRST IMPRESSIONS?

JUlIe has ni c e eyes, but unfortunately I could only see her head and shoulders. I didn’t think she’d put much effort into her outfit either, as it seemed like she had a hoodie on. I had taken the time to change after work and was wearing trousers and a T-shirt.

EASY TO TALK TO?

MY SUSHI order arrived five minutes in and I accidentally ended the Zoom call. We didn’t get back online for 15 minutes, and when Julie reappeared her hair was up and her attitude was off. I think she’d lost interest. I told her about my time living in Portugal but she wasn’t very responsive, which was exasperating. I’d like to put it down to the audio delay — we were either talking over one another or waiting for the other to talk.

On a positive note, her dog Peppa was delightful, and we both felt comfortable enough to eat on camera. Julie had a couple of glasses of wine and I had beer.

EMBARRASSING MOMENTS?

THeRe were none, though the second part of our date ended after 35 minutes when Julie announced she needed to take her dog out for a last walk. I suspect that was just an excuse to finish our date. I felt relieved it had ended, if I am being honest.

DID SPARKS FLY?

eRR, no. It was a bit of a one-way conversation with me making all of the effort.

WOULD YOU LIKE TO MEET IN PERSON?

PROBaBlY not. You either click or you don’t, and we didn’t.

WHAT DO YOU THINK SHE THOUGHT OF YOU?

I SUSPecT her thoughts aren’t positive, and that’s my fault for messing up the call at the start. later I was pretty philosophical about it. I didn’t take it to heart — not all dates are going to be good.

WOULD YOUR FRIENDS LIKE HER? I dON’T think they’d be enamoured with Julie.
