KAY Burley’s friends are said to be searching for the Sky staff who reportedly told photographers that she was breaking Covid rules.

A number of j unior producers hatched a plan after they overheard t he newsreader di s c uss her 60th birthday celebration, it was claimed.

Her disgruntled colleagues revealed details of her night out to the Press via an encrypted email, according to the Mail on Sunday.

‘It was a case of boom, this could really bring her down,’ said a source. ‘They thought, “If she gets caught, that would be the end for her”.’

Miss Burley has been taken off air for six months following an internal investigation by Sky.

She had visited a restaurant in central London with nine other diners then used a different restaurant’s bathroom after the 11pm curfew.

Miss Burley then continued the party at her Knightsbridge home with three others. Sky’s political editor Beth Rigby and reporter Inzamam Rashid have been taken off air for three months after they attended the meal at Century Club.

A photographer, reportedly tipped off by the Sky employees, caught the moment the party of ten spilled out on to the streets of Soho following their dinner. They also took pictures of Miss Burley and Miss Rigby embracing, which the political editor has since apologised for.

After creating an email account using highly secure service ProtonMail, the plotters reportedly sent an email with the attached pictures to

The Sun, using the email address ‘kayburley@protonmail.com’. ‘Kay Burley was bragging about breaking Tier 2 lockdown restrictions for her 60th birthday party last night,’ said the email, which has been seen by the Mail on Sunday.

It added: ‘Four people then went back to Kay’s Knightsbridge pad. There are pictures.’

The Sun reportedly opted against running the story.

It was then sent to the Guido Fawkes website, which decided to publish it.

Miss Burley, Miss Rigby and Mr Rashid are claimed to be on full pay, although Sky did not confirm this.

Miss Burley, who jetted off to Africa at the weekend for a pre-planned holiday, apologised last week.

‘It was a set-up which not only brought Kay down but badly damaged the station as a whole,’ a newsroom source told the Mail on Sunday.

Sky declined to comment.
