FIVE THINGS WE LEARNED FROM THE SPFL THIS WEEKEND

- CALUM McCLURKIN

RANGERS’ GOAL TRAIL DESPITE MORELOS

RANGERS continue to rack up the goals but their main striker keeps misfiring. It’s certainly a quandary for Steven Gerrard. Alfredo Morelos has scored just seven times in 22 games and missed plenty of chances in the 2-1 win at Dundee United. Rangers have scored 47 league goals but only three have been netted by the Colombian this season.

TAYLOR REWARDED FOR PARKHEAD PATIENCE

GREG TAYLOR has largely found himself on the sidelines since Celtic signed Diego Laxalt on loan from AC Milan but the former Kilmarnock full-back impressed in the 2-0 win against his old club yesterday. He was also involved in the opener in what was only his third start since the Old Firm defeat on October 17 as Neil Lennon’s men took another step towards steadying the ship.

MULLIN MAGIC HELPS CONJURE UP VICTORY

JOSH MULLIN set up both goals for Livingston in their 2-1 victory at St Johnstone. His cross found Jon Guthrie for the opener and the winger slipped in Scott Robinson for the winner. Livvy are now unbeaten in three and Mullin (right) faces his former team Ross County in the Betfred Cup on Wednesday in top form.

MISFIRING MOTHERWELL ARE ON THE SLIDE

CREATING plenty of opportunities but failing to convert them is becoming a familiar feeling for Motherwell. Stephen Robinson’s side had 19 shots on goal in their 1-0 defeat at home to St Mirren. They are without a win in their last five games in all competitions and have only scored three goals in this dismal run. Next up? Rangers at Ibrox on Saturday.

IDEAL RESPONSE FROM HUNGRY HEARTS

A THUMPING 6-1 victory was the right way for Hearts to remind Championship rivals why they are title favourites. The thrashing of Queen of the South was a perfect response to defeat at Dunfermline — and with the Pars and everyone else in the top five dropping points, Robbie Neilson’s side are already four clear after just seven games played.
