NISBET’S KNACK FOR GOALS SUITS SCOTLAND

-

HIBS are absolutely flying right now. Over the past week, Jack Ross and his side have notched back-to-back victories away from home. They have gone to Motherwell and Hamilton, two tricky venues for away sides, and won by an aggregate scoreline of 7-0. They sit third in the table and have the look of a really well-rounded team. In every department across the pitch, they look strong. But it’s the goals of Kevin Nisbet which continue to draw headlines. With nine goals in the Premiership, he’s the league’s second-top scorer behind James Tavernier. There was a lot of controversy around his arrival at Hibs in the summer when they paid £250,000 to sign him from Dunfermline. The Easter Road club spent a lot of money while pleading poverty in the middle of the pandemic. But Nisbet has made the step up to the top flight and taken it all in his stride. If he keeps banging in the goals, he’s surely got every chance of making it into the Scotland squad for next summer’s Euros. You can never have too many goalscorers in your squad. Lawrence Shankland is a very similar player who has been involved in recent Scotland squads. Yet, on current form, with Shankland not having scored for Dundee United since September, you would have to say Nisbet (far right) is ahead of him in the Scotland pecking order. If anyone has any doubts over Nisbet and the fact he was playing League One and Championship football not all that long ago, Lyndon Dykes’ rapid rise from Queen of the South says it all.
