Undoing star: My face is being eaten by acne

- By Imogen Horton

PLAYING the attractive and seductive Elena Alves in hit crime drama The Undoing, Matilda De Angelis rarely looked anything but flawless.

In an honest, make-up free selfie, however, the young actress has revealed that her skin is being ‘eaten by acne’.

The photo was accompanied by a candid message in which the 25year- old Italian said she hoped that by sharing her ‘little truth’ she would be stronger or learn to ‘accept herself better’.

‘There are things that cannot be controlled and this year taught us well,’ she wrote on Instagram. ‘Paradoxical things happen in life don’t they? Well, for me, being an actress and working with a face eaten by acne is one of them.’

She said having acne felt as if she was wearing her fears on her skin. ‘Every day I have to wake up and present myself first in front of the mirror and then in front of the camera with all the emotional load that already entails and being “splendid”, “in part” and concentrated together with all my fears and insecurities literally on the skin.

‘There are much bigger problems in life, I am aware of that, but I wanted to share this little truth perhaps to feel stronger, perhaps to accept myself better.’

Miss De Angelis, who has no formal acting training, won global fame in The Undoing, in which she starred alongside Nicole Kidman and Hugh Grant. She played mother-of-two Elena Alves, whose murder is the focus of the story, in her first English-speaking role.

Some three million British viewers tuned in for the opening episode of the six-part Sky Atlantic series in October.
