Even 6ft Santa Claus cake is in tiers – 17 to be exact!
WEIGHING 30 stone and containing an astonishing 360,000 calories, it is little wonder this Santa Claus cake took Rosie Dummer two weeks to make.
The mother of four wanted to bake something to say thank you to NHS staff for all their hard work this year.
So she set about creating a life-sized treat depicting Father Christmas hugging a nurse.
The heart-warming construction was then delivered to the Royal Bolton Hospital where it provided staff with a whopping 1,200 slices of chocolate cake soaked in orange syrup.
Each of the 17 layers were also filled with orange frosting. Mrs Dummer named the festive bake A Hug For Christmas.
The 53-year-old, from Manchester, said she was thrilled with how the 6ft cake turned out after she spent up to 16 hours a day over two weeks moulding, crafting and sculpting it. ‘This year has been such a strange and difficult year for everyone – but the NHS staff have been absolute heroes through it all ,’ she added.
‘We all used to clap on Thursday sand in the past few months we’ve all been trying to get back to some sort of normality – but they’ve still been saving lives on the front line. They haven’t stopped and I feel it’s important to remind ourselves of all they’ve done and to thank them.’
She also wanted to give something back because her daughter Lillie, a fourth-year medical student at the University of Liverpool, is among the health professionals preparing to provide the coronavirus vaccine.
Mrs Dummer’s passion for baking only started when she l eft the Army, where she had been the first female helicopter pilot in the British military.
She initially wanted to bake for her family but she has now made a career of constructing exceptional cakes which include full- sized sculptures of Freddie Mercury and Boris Johnson.
The Santa and nurse creation has now appeared on Channel 5’ s Amazing Cakes and Bakes programme. Mrs Dummer, pictured right, had worked until 4 am on some nights to complete it.
