TATE PUSHER IN NURSE ASSAULT

Teen gets extra 14 weeks of jail

- Daily Mail Reporter

A TEENAGER who threw a boy from the Tate Modern has been jailed for another 14 weeks for attacking hospital staff.

Jonty Bravery, 19, punched nursing assistant Sarah Edwards in the face before pulling a clump of her hair out after she said she was going to clean his room.

He t hen bit t herapy worker Maxwell King on his finger.

Bravery was on remand at high- security Broadmoor Hospital at the time for throwing a six-year-old boy from the 10th- storey balcony of Tate Modern in south London.

He was handed a life sentence, with a minimum 15year term, in June for the attempted murder of the French youngster, who was on holiday and suffered a bleed on the brain and multiple broken bones from the 100ft plunge.

Now he has been given another 14 weeks’ jail after admitting two charges of common assault on the hospital workers. He must also pay £200 compensation.

Bravery appeared at Westminster Magistrates’ Court by video-link from Belmarsh Prison.

Prosecutor Michael Mallon described Bravery – who has autism and a personality disorder – as ‘somewhat notorious’. The teenager was taken out of his room at Broadmoor for some fresh air in January when Miss Edwards went in to get his jumper.

Mr Mallon said: ‘ She made a passing comment that she was going to give his room a quick clean because of the smell.’

Bravery shouted ‘No, no, no’, became abusive then grabbed her from behind.

He hit her in the face and head four or five times.

‘She screamed in pain and fear,’ said Mr Mallon.

‘Miss Edwards tried to grab him with both arms. Mr Bravery had hold of her hair with both hands and they fell to the ground.’

Bravery then tried to kick Miss Edwards before Mr King arrived to help her and was himself assaulted.

She was left with a lump on her head where he pulled her hair out and needed seven weeks off work.

Chief Magistrate Emma Arbuthnot told him: ‘This woman had her back to you when you struck. It was a really horrible attack.’

Earlier this month, Bravery’s appeal against his sentence was dismissed.

He was i n supported accommodation at the time of the Tate attack and was allowed out unsupervised despite a history of lashing out at staff.
