FIVE THINGS WE LEARNED FROM THE SPFL THIS WEEKEND
KENT MAKES IT ALL CLICK FOR RANGERS
RYAN KENT looked back to his menacing best at Pittodrie. The winger set up both goals for Alfredo Morelos in Rangers’ 2-1 win at Aberdeen. Kent’s fancy flick to tee up the second was exquisite — and the former Liverpool man was also direct going forward, committing Dons defenders out of their deep positions and engineering space for the visitors in attack.
STAGGIES HAVE GOOD REASONS TO BELIEVE
A 3-1 defeat at Livingston yesterday only tells half the story for bottom-of-the-table Ross County. John Hughes has instilled more belief into the Staggies and the Highlanders have been much more confident on the ball in recent weeks. Hughes had enough confidence to roll the dice in an attempt to win the game in the last 15 minutes at 1-1, but in the end it backfired.
ALNWICK A SAFE PAIR OF HANDS FOR SAINTS
AN inspired performance from goalkeeper Jak Alnwick was crucial for St Mirren to earn a point against Motherwell in Saturday’s 1-1 draw in Paisley. Alnwick (pictured) made some great saves in a first half that was controlled by the Steelmen. Saints weathered the storm and fought back in the second period to clinch a valuable draw.
ACCIES COME UNSTUCK AT KILLIE YET AGAIN
RUGBY PARK is not a happy hunting ground for Hamilton Accies. Brian Rice’s men slumped to a 2-0 defeat at Kilmarnock and the Lanarkshire men have not won at the Ayrshire venue for four years now. A 1-0 Scottish Cup win in January 201 was the last time Accies tasted success there and they have now failed to win on any of their last eight visits there.
RESOLUTE ROSE WERE IN FULL BLOOM
BONNYRIGG ROSE put in a courageous effort in their extra-time Scottish Cup defeat at Championship side Dundee. The Lowland League side were incredible in defence and led twice, in normal time and extra-time, through the penalty spot. They lost 3-2 in the end but Robbie Horn can be enormously proud of his team’s valiant effort.
