Edinburgh sign Quins duo Lang and Young
EDINBURGH head coach Richard Cockerill couldn’t hide his delight at clinching the signings of Scotland international James Lang and Scottish second-row Glen Young from English Premiership side Harlequins. Although Lang can play fly-half — a position where Edinburgh don’t have much depth — he has been signed primarily as a centre. Young learned his trade at Jedburgh, with his dad Dougie being a British boxer in the 1984 Olympics in Los Angeles and at the 1986 Commonwealth Games. Cockerill said: ‘It’s great to announce a couple of new faces to show how our plans for the future continue to take shape. James and Glen are quality, experienced individuals — one of them an international, the other of international quality. They’ll add a new dynamic to our depth and competition for places in a number of areas. ‘James is a player we’ve been interested in for a long time, so it’s fantastic to secure his signature for the club. He’s a talented, international back who can play in a number of specialist positions and will be a real asset to us. ‘We’re equally pleased to sign Glen Young — a Borders man who’s spent his senior professional playing career in the English Premiership — and will now get a taste of a new competition, which he’s really excited about.’ Lang, 25, made his Scotland debut against Canada in 2018. He has won five caps so far and was involved in the autumn campaign last year, playing in the victories over Wales, Georgia and Italy. He said: ‘After a chat with Richard Cockerill on how he sees me fitting in, I had pretty much made my mind up to sign.’
