KATE MADE ME CRY
Meghan’s claim on infamous row over flower girl dresses
IT was the Duchess of Cambridge who made Meghan cry in the run-up to her wedding with Harry, not the other way round, the Duchess of Sussex has claimed.
She revealed that news reports suggesting she had reduced Kate to tears at a bridesmaids’ dress fitting were the ‘turning point’ for her.
The Duchess of Sussex told interviewer Oprah Winfrey that the stories were ‘the beginning of a real character assassination’ – but that the Palace refused to set the record straight.
Reports that Meghan made Kate, 39, cry during a dress fitting for Princess Charlotte first emerged in November 2018, some six months after Harry and Meghan’s wedding.
Insiders claimed the fitting was ‘stressful’ and had not gone to plan.
Last May, society bible Tatler claimed the row centred on whether Princess Charlotte and the other young bridesmaids should wear tights.
One source, described as an unnamed friend, told the publication that Kate wanted to follow ‘protocol’, with the bridesmaids, including Charlotte, then three, wearing tights – but Meghan disagreed.
Kensington Palace later issued a furious public statement about the feature, which also included other claims about Kate, saying it contained ‘a swathe of inaccuracies and false representations’.
In her bombshell interview with Miss Winfrey, Meghan claimed she had been the one reduced to tears over the dispute.
The 39-year-old said the ‘narrative’ was ‘really, really difficult’ before adding: ‘I think that’s when everything changed, really.’ At the time, rumours of a rift between the

‘Fab Four’ were intensified by reports that Harry and Meghan were moving from Kensington Palace to Frogmore Cottage at Windsor. Miss Winfrey asked Meghan if she had made Kate cry.
Meghan replied: ‘The reverse happened. And I don’t say that to be disparaging to anyone, because it was a really hard week of the wedding. And she was upset about something, but she owned it, and she apologised. And she brought me flowers and a note, apologising.
‘And she did what I would do if I knew that I hurt someone, right, to just take accountability for it.’
Meghan said she had ‘protected’ the story about Kate from coming out even though it had happened.
Sensationally, she seemed to suggest that Kate’s camp leaked the report, saying: ‘A few days before the wedding, she was upset about something. The issue was correct, it was about a flower girl dress. And it made me cry and it really hurt my feelings.’ She said: ‘The narrative about, you know, making Kate cry I think was the beginning of a real character assassination. And they knew it wasn’t true.
‘And I thought, well, if they’re not going to kill things like that, then what are we going to do?’ The former Suits actress also claimed that people in her camp were stopped from going on the record and saying it had not happened.
‘What was hard to get over was being blamed for something that not only I didn’t do but that happened to me,’ she said.
