Is this a sign that the monarchy has had its day?
THERE isn’t a family in this country that hasn’t experienced a row or falling out. The Royal Family is no exception, but the problem is that the whole world has been told about it. We must remember the Queen is head of state and her constitutional role is a counterbalance to Parliament. No one doubts the Queen is still doing a good job, but the monarchy has needed updating for years. Old protocols and court ritual have had their day. It’s time for change.

I HAVE nothing but admiration for
Meghan and Harry. Well done for speaking out about an institution that is steeped in pomp and ceremony, racism and hypocrisy.
HELGA CHARMAN, London SE24. WHILE I have the utmost respect for the Queen, I believe it is the institution that is to blame for the troubles experienced by Harry and Meghan.
JOHN BELL, Horsham, W. Sussex.
IF YOU compare pictures of Queen Victoria riding in her carriage in 1900 and today’s Royal Family, it is hard to detect any difference in these images of ostentation, pomposity and privilege. That the Royal Family has not accepted change goes to the root of the problem. The monarchy is out of date and no one is to blame except themselves. If the Royal Family is unable to change, it does not have a future, especially one funded by the public purse.

I COULDN’T care less about a petulant multi-millionaire couple who feel hard done by. The Royal Family is a dysfunctional, archaic institution that’s not fit for purpose. I would like to see a much smaller self-financing Royal Family kept solely for tourism and pageantry.
