Morgan row sparks record complaints

PIERS Morgan’s comments on Good Morning Britain about the Duchess of Sussex’s interview with Oprah Winfrey have led to the highest ever number of complaints to the TV regulator.

Ofcom has so far received 57,121 complaints – including one on behalf of Meghan Markle – about episodes of the ITV show on March 8 and .

Mr Morgan had cast doubts on comments the duchess made during her interview with Miss Winfrey, in which she talked of suicidal thoughts.

The previous record of complaints to Ofcom was 44,500 in 2007 amid a bullying row involving Bollywood actress Shilpa Shetty on Celebrity Big Brother.

A statement from the regulator said: ‘We can confirm that this issue has attracted the highest number of complaints since our reporting began.’

Mr Morgan, who has quit the show, tweeted: ‘Only 57,000? I’ve had more people than that come up and congratula­te me in the street for what I said.’

During Prime Minister’s Question Time, Mr Johnson said: ‘I think perhaps the best thing I can say about the Oxford/AstraZenec­a vaccine programme is that I finally got news that I’m going to have my own jab very shortly, I’m pleased to discover. It will certainly be Oxford/AstraZenec­a that I will be having.’

Number 10 said Mr Johnson is expected to be vaccinated later this week.

Last night it was unclear whether or not Downing Street had specifical­ly requested the Oxford/AstraZenec­a vaccine.
