My body froze as GP sexually assaulted me, patient tells court
A WOMAN has claimed she ‘froze’ and later broke down after an alleged sex attack by a doctor.
The 26-year-old said she was inappropriately touched during an examination by Matthew Adam.
The woman added that Adam had appeared ‘aroused’ at the medical centre in Angus in January 2015.
Adam, 36, is on trial at the High Court in Glasgow. He denies sexually assaulting the woman and denies sexually assaulting a 47-year-old woman in December 2015.
The 26-year-old woman – testifying via video link – yesterday said in evidence that she went to the doctor complaining of stomach cramps.
She alleged that Adam examined her chest and ribs by ‘prodding’ the areas. She added: ‘He just moved further down and got lower to my belly button and I started to feel uncomfortable.’
She told the court Adam moved his hand under her trousers where he rubbed and prodded her for ‘a couple of seconds’.
Prosecutor Lindsey Dalziel asked how she reacted. The woman said: ‘I didn’t say anything, my body just kind of froze. I just felt very uncomfortable and I thought that he would have seen that in me.’
She then claimed Adam pushed his groin against her leg or arm.
She added: ‘I looked to see what he was doing and I was shocked with what I saw.’
The woman stated she was later given medication by Adam but did not listen to his instructions as she was ‘shocked and trying to hold it together’.
She said that she went into her partner’s car and was upset while telling him what had happened.
The woman said that they made a complaint to the medical centre’s manager but did not contact the police.
She recalled: ‘Through the hyperventilating and crying, I
‘Shocked with what I saw’
told her. I told her that I had been examined and that it was very uncomfortable.’
Asked about going to the police, she added: ‘I battled with myself whether or not to do it. I was at university at the time doing my dissertation and there was a lot going on.’
The police later contacted the woman and her partner and they made a statement.
On Wednesday, the other woman in the case claimed she had been attacked by Adam during an examination at her home.
Adam also denies exposing himself and taking a photograph at St Margaret’s Hospital in Auchterarder, Perthshire, on June 20, 2019.
The trial, before judge Lord Sandison, continues.
