Glass insists fans will grow to love the man they jeer

- ALAN DOUGLAS

SCOTT BROWN is the man Aberdeen fans have always loved to hate... but Stephen Glass reckons they’ll soon grow to cherish their new player-coach. The Celtic skipper has had a series of run-ins with Aberdeen players past and present, including Graeme Shinnie and Shay Logan, and often wound up Dons supporters who were never slow to tell him what they thought of him in return. But Glass, who has known Brown since the midfielder’s formative years at Hibs, believes he will quickly win over supporters who once took delight in jeering him. ‘There’s a reason most of the fans in Scotland don’t like him,’ Glass told Red TV. ‘It’s because he’s been a huge part in beating everyone else’s team. ‘Off the pitch, you see all the charity work he does, he doesn’t look for credit for a lot of the things he does. You probably don’t see 90 per cent of the things Scott Brown does for people. That’s the type of person he is. ‘He’s from a great family, his wife and kids are great people, and the Aberdeen community is going to love him.’ Securing Brown provides Glass with a major boost at the start of his tenure as he aims to breathe new life into the Dons. ‘The opportunity to bring a player of Scott’s calibre, a leader who has more European appearances for Celtic than any other player, is a huge coup for me and for Aberdeen,’ he said. ‘Scott will be a big part of my coaching team and, whilst his impact will undoubtedly be felt on the pitch — where I believe he still has much to give — I am looking forward to assisting his transition into coaching. I have no doubt he will be a success here.’
