Smiles of ‘murdered’ mum and daughter, 2
BODIES found in a house have been identified as those of a missing mother and her two-year-old child.
The bodies of Bennylyn Burke, 25, and her daughter Jellica were recovered from a house in dundee, on March 18.
Police yesterday released a touching picture of the mum and her little girl, showing them smiling at the camera.
Miss Burke was reported missing along with Jellica and another child from Gloucestershire on March 1.
Police initially visited the address where the bodies were concealed on Friday March 5 as part of their inquiries.
However, it was almost two weeks before their bodies were recovered. The other missing child was traced safe and well and is currently being cared for.
Andrew innes, 50, has been charged with the murder of Miss Burke and her daughter. He appeared via video link at dundee Sheriff Court on March 8.
He is accused of repeatedly striking the young mother with a hammer or similar implement to her death. Prosecutors claim he also killed toddler Jellica at his home by ‘means unknown’ at some point during a 17-day period.
He entered no plea at his hearing and was remanded in custody. At a subsequent court date he made no motion for bail and was remanded in custody again.
The mother and the two children were last seen alive in Gloucestershire on February 17.
Following the discovery of the bodies last month, Miss Burke’s family was said to be ‘shattered’ by the news. Her brother, oscar Aquino, penned a touching tribute to his ‘beautiful, intelligent’ sister and said she would be sorely missed by her family. it is understood Miss Burke moved from the Philippines to the UK two years ago.
