Unacceptable attitudes

-

RACISM is very real in Britain. I’ve been working for a tech company in London and during a Zoom call with a company in the North of England, one of the clients accidentally unmuted himself and did not realise we could hear his conversation with his colleagues in their office.

For almost 20 minutes, the four Indian members in my development team were subjected to a barrage of racist abuse.

Though shocked, for the sake of professionalism we managed to keep our composure while the clients mocked our accents, made racist comments and laughed about wanting to carpet-bomb our country.

We had been working closely with this company for several months and this was a real eye-opener about how they had been thinking about us all along. Though they had been friendly to our faces, their real feelings were exposed in that call. This type of behaviour and attitude is not acceptable. Real change is needed to end racism in Britain. I AM so sorry that brain surgeon Henry Marsh has been diagnosed with advanced prostate cancer (Mail). I fully support his call for an inquiry into assisted dying.

However, there is no chance of achieving this when the topic is treated with ambivalence by MPs.

On the last occasion it was debated in Parliament, of 650 MPs I counted only 36 sitting in the Commons. What an insult to campaigners and the people of this country. Dr CHRISTOPHER DUGMORE,

Leicester.
