FIVE THINGS WE LEARNED FROM THE SPFL THIS WEEKEND
ROPEY RANGERS RELY ON HOME COMFORT
RANGERS were ropey at times in their 2-1 win over Hibernian yesterday but preserved their incredible home record in the Premiership. Steven Gerrard’s side have won all 17 league matches at Ibrox and Kevin Nisbet’s header was just the third goal they have conceded in this remarkable run. Still unbeaten in the league, Rangers are four games away from perfection.
FORWARDS FINALLY CLICK INTO PLACE FOR CELTIC
AN attacking quartet of Odsonne Edouard, Moi Elyounoussi, David Turnbull and James Forrest might be the dream combination for Celtic. They combined to devastating effect in the 6-0 victory over Livingston as John Kennedy’s side discovered some attacking sparkle at long last. This attacking set-up could be the answer to salvage some pride for the rest of the term.
LONG EASES THE DROP STRAIN FOR STEELMEN
A 1-0 win over St Mirren virtually ensured safety for Motherwell in a largely underwhelming season. Devante Cole scored the winner, but fellow forward Christopher Long is equally important. Long (right) links the play for the Steelmen and he created the vital goal for Cole.
SET-PIECES PROVE TO BE UNDOING OF KILLIE
DEFENDING dead-ball situations has been a constant issue for Kilmarnock this season and that Achilles heel provided Ross County with the chance to snatch a 2-2 draw at Rugby Park. The Staggies had one corner to Killie’s six but scored from that single set-play. Killie failed to deal with Iain Vigurs’ delivery and that meant Tommy Wright’s side haven’t kept a clean sheet in their last 12 league games.
HURT HAMILTON ARE UP FOR SAFETY FIGHT
JUST one win in 14 games for Hamilton but Brian Rice’s side showed they have the spirit for another survival fight. Accies dominated large spells in the 1-0 home defeat to Dundee United but lacked composure in front of goal. Rice’s men have won just two matches in 2021 but both came against Motherwell, who Accies face next.
