NOW THAT’S A CLIFFHANGER
Twist in hunt for ‘H’ as Line of Duty reveals bent copper has secret relative... but who is it?
THE sixth series of Line of Duty has been criticised for being dry and full of jargon.
That was until Sunday night. A riveting fourth episode left viewers with the mother of all cliffhangers – following a shootout and several deaths.
In the final scene, Detective Inspector Steve Arnott, played by Martin Compston, reveals there is a DNA match for crooked Detective Chief Inspector Joanne Davidson
Killed? Tommy Hunter
on the police database – a mystery blood relative. He hands a file with the name of the match to Superintendent Ted Hastings, played by Adrian Dunbar, who utters his catchphrase: ‘Mother of God,’ before the credits roll.
Fans of the BBC1 police corruption drama shared their theories on the identity online.
Mike Dryden, a former deputy chief constable in jail for perverting the course of justice, was one suggestion – particularly as he is a Scot, just like Davidson.
Tommy Hunter, the ex-boss of the show’s organised crime gang (OCG), is another candidate. He is also Scottish.
Hunter was killed in hospital in the second series after becoming an informant but some fans are convinced he is still alive.
Viewers also suggested the relative is John Corbett, an undercover officer killed by the OCG. One Twitter user wrote: ‘Well Line of Duty has got us all craning our heads to investigate!... Tommy Hunter is my guess!’
The series follows the continued search by anti-corruption police unit AC-12 for the identity of a fourth corrupt officer working with the OCG – nicknamed H.
AC-12 is now also investigating a senior officer who led an unsolved murder case. Line of Duty continues on Sunday at 9pm.
