Is William right to fire a rocket at space travel?

- CHERRY GREEN, Aylsham, Norfolk.

INSTEAD of constantly seeking other planets that maybe we could live on, I agree with Prince William that we need to appreciate and look after what we already have (Mail). We have abused this planet, so let’s not give people the opportunity to do the same to another world. Bored billionaires should get behind Prince William and help save the Earth.

A. E. HAYWOOD, Newport, Gwent.

IT WAS a mistake by Prince William to criticise Amazon founder Jeff Bezos for his short space flights. Space travel has been behind so many of the technologies that we use today, from solar cells to satellite navigation. Nasa has struggled to get the funding it needs for its space programme. The fact Mr Bezos, Elon Musk and Sir Richard Branson are willing to invest their own money in space exploration and travel is to be applauded, not criticised.

ROBERT BISHOP, Billingshurst, W. Sussex.

WILLIAM SHATNER criticises Prince William for his negative view on space joyrides. His argument is that such trips are baby steps to moving polluting industry to space. So instead of a 95-year-old actor, why not send to space scientists and engineers who have the knowledge and skills to understand if such projects are feasible.

J. GREEN, Burton upon Trent, Staffs.

PRINCE William was certainly correct to criticise egotistical billionaires and space tourism.

Humans are destroying this planet and littering space.

ALLAN STEVENSON, Carlisle, Cumbria.

CLEVER people should be fixing the Earth, not exploring space, argues Prince William. No doubt the same comments were made about exploratory voyages to the Americas and Australia. We might argue those places would have been better off left alone. The issue is that unless something is done about population control, the human race will eventually have to colonise space.

R. BRADSHAW, Cowbridge, Vale of Glamorgan.

PRINCE William is right that we must look after our planet, but humans need to explore.
