WOOD AIMS TO SHOW WARNOCK HE MADE RIGHT MOVE

- By MARK WILSON

NATHAN WOOD is determined to prove he hasn’t made a mistake with a loan move to Hibernian following criticism from Middlesbrough manager Neil Warnock. The England Under-20 defender joined the Easter Road club at the end of August but only made his debut in last week’s disappointing 3-0 home defeat to Dundee United. Just prior to that outing, Warnock hit out at the 19-year-old’s agent for pointing him towards Hibs. ‘Nathan went because his agent wanted him to play games but they obviously don’t know what they’re talking about because I don’t think he’s started a game yet,’ said Warnock. ‘So where he’s getting the experience from, I’ll never know. Sometimes you just get given the wrong advice and I think Nathan was given the wrong advice.’ Wood, though, has stressed it is up to him to prove his worth to Jack Ross ahead of today’s trip to Aberdeen and the numerous games still to come this term. Asked about his relationship with Warnock, one of football’s most outspoken characters, the centre-back said: ‘Yeah, everyone has opinions on him. But he is fine. ‘He is fine with me but I needed to get out of Middlesbrough, to be honest, because I didn’t really feel part of that squad. ‘I wasn’t playing in those games and at my age I feel like I am ready to play. That was why I took it upon myself to push for a loan. ‘I haven’t spoken to him (about the recent comments). But waiting for your chance can be part of football sometimes. ‘I have had to wait to get into the team (at Hibs) but I didn’t come here thinking it would be a breeze and that I was going to come in and get in the team easily, because this is a good team that has been winning games. ‘So if the time is not right, you’ve just got to wait for your chance to come. And when it comes to the things he said about whether this loan is right for me, whether it is good or bad, is up to me. ‘It’s up to me to make it a good loan. I can only do that by training well and playing well.’
