IT started with a cheeky ‘Oiii Oiiiiiiiiiiiii’ on her social media accounts.

But Adele’s brief message – coupled with a heart emoji and photo of herself with two dates – yesterday set off a frantic race by fans to grab tickets to see her perform live in her hometown for the first time in five years.

A week after the release of her comeback single Easy On Me, the star announced she is to perform two gigs in Hyde Park next summer.

However, those who want the full works will have to part with hundreds for tickets when they begin to go on sale tomorrow morning.

A so-called Diamond VIP Experience will set fans back £379.95, while the All VIP Terrace costs £434.95. But those wanting the Ultimate Bar Diamond and Ultimate Terrace ticket will need to cough up a whopping £579.95.

General admission tickets come in at a more affordable £90.45, the same as Sir Elton John who is performing in June.

Primary Entry, which allows fans to arrive up to one hour before, costs £111.85 while a Gold ticket, which includes early entry and access to an exclusive private bar area and a premium viewing platform, costs £273.95.

Adele, 33, will headline British Summer Time Hyde Park on July 1 and 2. Other acts are expected to be announced in due course.

News of the gigs appeared to crash Adele’s website with many fans complaining that they were unable to get on to sign up to access a pre-sale which will be available from 10am tomorrow. American Express card members can access a separate early ticket sale from 10am on Friday. However, the majority of tickets will be available via Tickemaster from Saturday at 10am.

It’s unclear how many tickets will be available in total but Hyde Park’s capacity for concerts is around 65,000.

One fan tweeted: ‘Spent nearly two hours trying to sign up to Adele’s presale and if that’s not a sign of how the ticket sales are gonna go then I don’t know what is.’ Another wrote: ‘Site crashed!!! Me and my daughter are never gonna get to see you live.’

Radio One presenter Greg James stoked Glastonbury Festival rumours after pointing out that the BST dates fall one week after the annual Worthy Farm bash. He posted a pair of eyes and wrote: ‘Weekend after Glastonbury.’

The Grammy Award-winner, who is dating sports agent Rich Paul, previously headlined the festival in 2016. She last played in the UK – at Wembley Stadium – as part of a mammoth tour in 2017 which saw her perform 17 dates across the country as well as multiple dates in Europe, America, Australia and New Zealand.

Adele’s long-awaited comeback single – the emotional break-up ballad Easy On Me - topped the Official Singles Chart with 217,300 sales in its first week, and notched up the highest week one figure since Ed Sheeran’s 2017 Shape Of You with 226,800.

She also broke an Official UK Chart record after the single gained 24 million streams in the UK last week, topping Ariana Grande’s previous record of 16.9 million.
