Fake ticket fraudster raked in thousands

Pink fans ripped off in scam

- By David Meikle

A SERIAL fraudster has admitted ripping off dozens of Pink fans by offering fake tickets for a sold-out gig.

Lisa Nelson, 31, sold tickets for two of the US superstar’s concerts but buyers were left empty-handed when they failed to materialise.

Some of her victims were hundreds of pounds out of pocket and around 50 formed an online chat group and estimated they had lost about £9,000 between them.

Pink, who has sold 60million albums worldwide, played two nights at Hampden Park in Glasgow as part of her Beautiful Trauma World Tour in June 2019.

Police were called in and an investigation revealed Nelson, of Aberdeen, had used several aliases to conceal her scam. She pleaded guilty to fraud at Hamilton Sheriff Court. Sentence was deferred until next month for reports and her bail was continued.

Nelson previously claimed she gave all the money she made to another woman and sold her American bulldog for £1,000 in an attempt to repay those who had been conned. She said she had been offered £40 by this woman for every ticket she sold for the gig, which never materialised.

Stephen Jamieson, of Paisley, told how he was fleeced by Nelson. He said: ‘My wife Susan is a big fan. Tickets sold out online really quickly so I went on Facebook Marketplace and found this woman Lisa selling tickets.

‘She was offering tickets for £80, just under face value. I got three for £240 so we could take our 13-yearold. She sent me a photo of her passport, her address, her bank details.

‘When the tickets didn’t come she was making excuses, spinning me yarns, so I went to knock her door.

‘I don’t know how she sleeps at night’

She wasn’t in but I spoke to a neighbour who said I was about the 30th person to come looking for Pink tickets. I went online and started finding all these other people who’d been ripped off.’ Another victim, Catriona Thomson, said: ‘It was hard to believe it wasn’t genuine... it was about three weeks before the concert and I hadn’t heard from her so I contacted her over Facebook. She fobbed me off. ‘I don’t know how she sleeps at night.’ An allegation that Nelson also carried out a fraudulent scheme for concert tickets in October 2018 was dropped.
