THREE KEY CLASHES...
ALI PRICE v SONATANE TAKULUA
PRICE is not short of rivals at scrum-half. His Glasgow Warriors team-mates George Horne and Jamie Dobie are both snapping at his heels — and Edinburgh’s Ben Vellacott will soon follow. But Price has made the jersey his own over the past 18 months — and went on to start two of the three Tests for the Lions against South Africa in the summer. He was given a first run-out of the season against Leinster last week, and the plan is to get him up to speed in time for the visit of Australia and the Springboks over the next fortnight. He will be up against an experienced operator in Takulua, the Toulon man who also had a five-year stint with Newcastle in the Premiership.
BLAIR KINGHORN v KURT MORATH
FINE a player though he may be, Kinghorn is still wet behind the ears at fly-half. It’s a position still new to him after he was moved from full-back at the start of this season for Edinburgh. There’s no doubt he’s a terrific athlete, but he needs to show a greater understanding of the game. His pace won’t count for much. What matters is his ability to read the game and to pick holes in the Tongan defence. At 36 years old, and with almost 40 caps under his belt, Morath is hugely experienced. He would be a decent feather in Kinghorn’s cap, if he can get the better of the Tongan playmaker.
RUFUS McLEAN v WALTER FIFITA
WATCH out for McLean as one of Scotland’s breakout stars of this Autumn series. The Glasgow winger has an electric turn of pace — and footwork to match. A recent arrival at Scotstoun, Fifita will be going up against his Warriors team-mate. Expect fireworks any time they get ball.
