Should the new head of the Met police be an Australian?

-

IN A shocking indictment of the quality of senior Met police officers, the Home Secretary has decided not one of them is suitable to succeed Cressida Dick as Met Police Commissioner. She is seeking to recruit a senior Australian police officer from the New South Wales force. I assume she does not consider any of our Chief Constables to be qualified either.

IT MAY be the best thing that could happen to the Met to have someone from another country show us how it should be run. But it does not say much for us that we can’t find anyone from our own country to replace someone as useless as Cressida Dick.

ONE possible candidate as the new head of the Met police, the commissioner of New South Wales Police, says: ‘There needs to be a little bit of fear in law enforcement. People, especially criminals or would-be criminals, need to know there are consequences.’ Another likely candidate is a woman who has addressed sexism and bullying scandals in Queensland Fire and Emergency Services. In woke Britain, which one do you think are we more likely to get?

FRED McMANUS, Paisley, Renfrewshire.

THE thought of going to Australia to find a new Met Commissioner fills me with dread. That once peaceful, laid-back, democratic country was turned into a virtual police state due to strict Covid restrictions. Australia’s police commissioners should be ashamed, yet Priti Patel wants to employ one of them.

NEXT Met chief from Down Under? Why not, the Met is upside down!
