FIVE THINGS WE LEARNED FROM THE SPFL THIS WEEKEND
BACUNA STARTS TO SETTLE IN AT IBROX
IT took a month or so for John Lundstram to get acclimatised to his new surroundings at Rangers and Juninho Bacuna is beginning to find his feet, too. He scored a fine goal in the 4-2 victory over Ross County at Ibrox yesterday and the former Huddersfield midfielder looked much more comfortable than in his previous outings this term.
CROSSES REMAIN A PROBLEM FOR CELTIC
CONCEDING goals from crossed balls was a recurring issue for Celtic last season and the problem is threatening to resurface. For all the relentless attacking success that sealed a 4-2 win over Dundee, there were two lapses from crosses. Eight of the nine goals they have lost in the Premiership have been as a direct result of balls into the box.
DEVLIN A DELIGHT IN HEARTS’ MIDFIELD
AFTER a sticky spell, Hearts were at their fluid best in their 5-2 victory over Dundee United. Combative and creative, Cammy Devlin (pictured) is emerging as the main man in the midfield. The Australian set up the opener.
STEELMEN PASS BIG TEST OF CHARACTER
WITH a 6-1 humiliation by Rangers fresh in their minds, Motherwell had to show plenty of character in defeating Aberdeen 2-0 at Pittodrie on Saturday. Graham Alexander’s men soaked up a lot of pressure in the first half before ending a winless run of five matches and keeping their first clean sheet since beating the Dons by the same scoreline at Fir Park in September.
CLEAR CLASS DIVIDE IN THE CHAMPIONSHIP
THE top five clubs have a cushion over the bottom five in the Championship. Fifth-top Partick Thistle are eight points clear of Ayr in sixth. In terms of points, the Honest Men are nearer bottom club Dunfermline than they are to the Jags and Partick are closer to leaders Kilmarnock than they are to Ayr. It’s shaping up as two mini-leagues.
