SET in a Manchester canteen, Victoria Wood’s comedy is full of precisely scripted jokes and warm characters, played by a great cast that includes Wood, Julie Walters and, in her breakthrough role, Maxine Peake. It begins a repeat with the first two episodes tonight.

PART two deals with the case of Alex Rodda, a 15-year-old murdered by 18-yearold Matthew Mason. Along with all the social media posts — Alex was prolific in this regard — we hear a lot from his friends and his mother, Lisa, and there is a heartbreaking video of him as a toddler.

THE new, third season of the playful and extremely sweary DC superhero show brings new starts for many of the team. Rita (April Bowlby), for instance, is entrusted with a big secret, and relevations come from a ghost clearly styled after Jedi spirits in Star Wars.
