PLAYER RATINGS

- BY BRIAN MARJORIBANKS

CRAIG GORDON 7.5 Scotland’s No 1 marked his 64th cap by keeping a clean sheet against free-scoring Denmark. Just gets better with age.

JOHN SOUTTAR 8 Hearts defender scored a fairytale goal on his return to the national team after three injury-plagued years.

LIAM COOPER 7.5 Impressive at the back, the Leeds United captain’s cushioned header set up Souttar’s opening goal. Rock solid throughout.

KIERAN TIERNEY 7.5 Arsenal star put in yet another fine display on the left of the Scottish back three. Also played a few lovely balls into midfield.

STEPHEN O’DONNELL 7.5 A fine performance saw the Motherwell man contain Danish dangerman Joakim Maehle. A good shift.

BILLY GILMOUR 8 Wonderful in midfield before cramping up due to bizarre lack of game time at Norwich City. Just oozes class on the ball.

CALLUM McGREGOR 8 Excellent defensive work and precision passing from Celtic’s Mr Reliable, who works so well alongside Gilmour.

ANDY ROBERTSON 7.5 Captain put in a fine shift getting up and down the pitch before limping off and being replaced by Scott McKenna.

JOHN McGINN 7.5 A real menace to the Danes, the all-action midfielder’s dangerous dead-ball delivery led to Souttar’s goal.

RYAN CHRISTIE 7.5 Worked hard to win the ball back and linked up well with Robertson on the left. Always made himself available for a pass.

CHE ADAMS Worked his socks off and capped a fabulous performance with a deserved goal to seal all three points. Outstanding.

8.5

SUBSTITUTES K McLean (for Gilmour 74), S McKenna (for Robertson 79), S Armstrong (for Christie 79), A Ralston (for Tierney 88). Not used: Clark, McLaughlin, Porteous, Turnbull, Nisbet, Ferguson, Brown.

STEVE CLARKE 8.5 Masterminded as good a Scotland performance as there has been in years.

KASPER SCHMEICHEL 7 One terrific save from Adams in first half but booked for accusing referee’s assistant of needing glasses.

ANDREAS CHRISTENSEN 6 Chelsea defender had his hands full on the right against Andy Robertson and Ryan Christie. Never really looked comfortable.

SIMON KJAER 6.5 Danish captain had a tough shift against Che Adams. One vital block from the Scotland striker but Adams had last laugh.

JANNIK VESTERGAARD 6 Leicester City centre back looked ill-at-ease when Adams went wide and up against McGinn. Had a few clumsy touches on the ball.

RASMUS KRISTENSEN 6 Red Bull Salzburg player was unable to get into the match in an attacking sense. Scotland denied him space out wide.

DANIEL WASS 6 Caught napping on the line as Souttar headed home the opener. Saw one shot deflected narrowly wide by Cooper.

JENS JONSSON 5 Cadiz midfielder could not get into the game and no surprise he was replaced by Jens Stage. Never got up to speed with things.

JOAKIM MAEHLE 6 Left-sided dangerman never looked like adding to his six goals from his last nine starts. Scotland kept him well-shackled.

ANDREAS SKOV OLSEN 6 A few flashes of danger down the right flank but the Bologna winger was handled comfortably by Tierney. Quiet night.

JACOB BRUUN LARSEN 5 Hoffenheim wide man was a peripheral figure before being replaced by Pione Sisto. Pacey but never found any space.

ANDREAS CORNELIUS 6 Headed a McGinn corner off his own line but unable to trouble the Scottish defence. Cooper and Co never gave him a sniff.

SUBSTITUTES Sisto (for Bruun Larsen 56), Stage (for Jonsson 56), Uhre (for Cornelius 72), Dreyer (for Wass 81), Bah (for Kristensen 81). Not used: Maxso, Vinhalh-Jensen, Jakobsen, Ronnow.

KASPER HJULMAND 6.5 Chasing ten wins out of ten in the group but his team were simply blown away.

REF A HERNANDEZ (SPA) 6 Several Scots were on brink of a suspension but he was always calm. ATTENDANCE 49,527
