Sturgeon’s flawed Covid testing plan
The SNP thankfully performed a U-turn and postponed introducing Covid passports into hospitality, sport etc. however, lateral flow tests are nothing but a paper exercise. Firstly, they are not as accurate as a PCR test and secondly they rely on the absolute honesty of the person, if that individual has chosen to self-test. The result of the test is reported online by the same person. Can you imagine the scenario where negative tests are required to enter major concerts or football cup finals? how many people will be honest in their reporting when they are desperate to attend those events? True results will only be guaranteed where tests are carried out by test centres.

NICOLA Sturgeon’s Government is in freefall. The quite breathtaking step back from the much heralded extra vac-cine passport requirements without a trace of apology is shameful. If Nicola Sturgeon had spent some more time with the statistics and less time getting selfies at Cop26 perhaps she might have made her judgment much earlier. This constant policy on/off is the trademark of the SNP. It even extends to its on/off relationship with Indyref2. It is simply a Government making it up as it goes along but unable to see what is ahead with any degree of clarity. The pandemic definitely has not gone away, what has gone is the SNP Govern-ment’s nerve.

The First Minister has realised expanding her vaccination passport scheme would be a bad idea as she has delayed any change. So much for overwhelming evidence it works. Surely if her assessment showed this to be accurate, Miss Sturgeon has put personal popularity before protection? however, her acceptance that a recent negative test can be used as an alternative says it all – passports are meaningless proof of vaccination not infection status. Another SNP U-turn in disguise.
