Now Motsi must isolate as new curse of Strictly strikes for fourth time

- By Eleanor Sharples TV & Radio Correspondent

FOR years, the infamous Strictly ‘curse’ has stalked the celebrity pairings, apparently prompting their relationships off the show to fall apart.

This year, however, it’s Covid that’s causing havoc – and for the fourth time this series one of the stars will not be appearing after a brush with the virus.

Judge Motsi Mabuse revealed yesterday she would be absent from tonight’s show after being told to self-isolate.

Despite being double jabbed and having had her booster, strict rules mean her German vaccine is not recognised in the UK and as such she must quarantine after coming into contact with a positive case.

Miss Mabuse, 40, who travels between the UK and Germany, will be replaced by Broadway star Cynthia Erivo, who filled in for judge Craig Revel Horwood last weekend after he tested positive.

She said in a statement on Instagram: ‘I must follow UK Government guidance

‘I am healthy, that’s what matters’

and can only return after 30 November to the UK...Luckily I have been tested multiple times and am negative.

‘I am healthy, I am with my family, that’s what matters.’

Strictly Come Dancing said she will be back next weekend.

There have been a string of other absences from the series this year.

McFly singer Tom Fletcher and his professional partner Amy Dowden tested positive after week one and the Loose Women panellist Judi Love caught the bug last month.

The comedian Robert Webb withdrew from the show because of ill health. He had open heart surgery two years ago and said he was quitting on his doctor’s orders last month after beginning to ‘feel symptoms’ while training.

And former rugby player Ugo Monye pulled out of one show last month with a back injury.
