Nursing home outing to see male stripper ends in court

Woman tells of her ‘shock’ as naked dancer sat on her knee

- By Gordon Currie

NURSING home residents were taken on a minibus to a drunken male strip show in order to fulfil a ‘bucket list’ request, a court has been told.

One resident complained about the trip the following morning after being shocked when a naked male stripper clambered over her wheelchair.

Lisa Dolan, 48, said she had not been to a strip show before and had expected it to be like the hit 1997 movie The Full Monty, which starred Robert Carlyle.

But she told Dundee Sheriff Court she had to smack the stripper on the bottom

‘I was expecting it to be like the Full Monty’

to get rid of him as he stood completely naked in front of her.

Miss Dolan told the trial of the three carers who took them that she felt ‘vulnerable’ and was shocked that the show was much more graphic, with full-on nudity, than she was prepared for.

She said the accused trio – Caitlin Gibb, Shannon Briggs and Samantha Brunton – became ‘happy’ during the evening and were seen buying drinks at the bar in Baxter’s, Dundee.

Miss Dolan said the trip had been organised by the Linlathen Neurodisability Centre in the city after a former resident put it on her bucket list of things to do.

Gibb, 22, Briggs, 24, and 36-yearold Brunton, all of Dundee, deny allegations they ‘ill-treated or wilfully neglected’ two patients in their care by taking them out of the centre in the run-up to Christmas 2018. They are alleged to have attended the Linlathen Centre while they were under the influence of alcohol on December 1 and taken Sandra McGowan and Miss Dolan out.

They are alleged to have conveyed the two patients to an adult entertainment show at Baxter’s and allowed them to consume alcohol from the bar without supervision.

The accused are further alleged to have consumed alcohol and failed to properly care for the two women. It is also alleged they allowed a ‘naked, male, adult entertainer to sit on the knee’ of one woman while she was in her wheelchair.

Miss Dolan told the court: ‘What I expected was what I had seen on TV. I was expecting it to be like The Full Monty so I did go thinking it would be like that, but it wasn’t.

‘He was sitting in the chair with Caitlin. Then, all of a sudden, she stood up and I didn’t realise he was coming towards me.

‘I was trying to push him away, but I couldn’t because he came that quick. He put his legs over me, he was facing me, and there wasn’t a stitch on.

‘He put his legs over the side of my chair and sat on my knee which I didn’t know was going to happen. I was actually shocked that happened.

‘He had his full front in my face. I tried to push him away.

‘I pushed his bum to get him away. I smacked his bum and he moved away.

‘The next morning I went straight to report it and said I will never go to a strip club again. It was just not appropriate.’ She told the court she was ‘a wee bit drunk’ by the end of the evening and felt that the three accused had not been looking after her in the club.

She said she had reported her concerns to the home – which had provided its official minibus for the trip – after she woke up the following morning.

The court was told that the three accused were not officially on duty as they were on a night off and another staff member was driving the bus and was present in Baxter’s.

The trial continues.
