Our top team up for ‘Oscars’
THE Scottish Daily Mail and the Scottish Mail on Sunday have been nominated in a host of categories at the Scottish Press Awards, which celebrate the very best of the country’s journalism.
News, sport and features teams are shortlisted in this year’s newspaper ‘Oscars’ – with 17 nominations in total.
The Scottish Daily Mail is in the running for Campaign of the Year for the ongoing Secret Scotland series lifting the lid on the secrecy culture at the heart of the nation’s public bodies.
The Scottish Daily Mail’s Jonathan Brocklebank is shortlisted for Columnist of the Year. He also secured a nod for Interviewer of the Year alongside sports journalist Heather Dewar and The Mail on Sunday’s Georgia Edkins.
Emma Cowing has been shortlisted for Feature Writer of the Year alongside Daily Mail colleague John MacLeod and Patricia Kane from The Scottish Mail on Sunday. Emma was also nominated in the Food and Drink Writer of the Year category. Scottish Daily Mail Political Editor Michael Blackley is up for Political Journalist of the Year.
Heather Dewar has been nominated for the Nicola Barry Award, which celebrates women in Scottish journalism. Heather has four nominations in total, including the Sports Feature Writer and Sports News Writer of the Year.
Gary Keown, of The Scottish Mail on Sunday, is up against Scottish Daily Mail colleague Stephen McGowan for Sports Columnist of the Year.
Stephen is also shortlisted for Sports News Writer of the Year.
The Scottish Daily Mail’s Rob Robertson is competing for the Sports Feature Writer of the Year title.
The winners will be revealed at a ceremony in Glasgow in September.
