Dons boss won’t sell key duo on the cheap
JIM GOODWIN insists Aberdeen have no intention of selling either Lewis Ferguson or Connor Barron on the cheap this summer. The midfield duo have both been linked with a move away from Pittodrie, with Barron reportedly a target for Premiership champions Celtic. The 19-year-old currently has two years left on his contract and Aberdeen are hopeful that he will sign an extension ahead of the new season. Ferguson, meanwhile, has been a target for a host of English Championship clubs. He also has two years left to run and would command a sizeable transfer fee if he were to leave. But Goodwin insists that he is still hopeful of retaining the services of both players unless their valuation is met. The Dons manager also played down any suggestion that Ferguson had been the subject of a £1.5million bid from Millwall last week. With the club heading to a training camp in Spain on Monday, he said: ‘Lewis is on an extended break because of his involvement with the (Scotland) national team. He will travel with the team to Spain. ‘I’m not aware of any bid from Millwall at the moment. I’m not privy to those conversations. I had a good chat with Lewis and said the same thing I said about Calvin Ramsay. ‘Everybody has a valuation — if it’s met, we’ll have that discussion with the player and his representatives. ‘Until that time comes, I’ll be looking forward to having Lewis Ferguson as part of our squad.’ On the future of Barron, Goodwin said: ‘We’ve got a number of good young players in our squad we are wanting to extend their contracts. Connor Barron is one of them. ‘Based on what he did in the second half of the campaign, there is always going to be speculation. Connor is a terrific young talent, he’s still got a lot of development to do. ‘I spoke to him last week and I think Aberdeen, at the moment, is the best place for him to further his development.’
