THIS week’s subject is powerlifter Karenjeet Kaur Bains (pictured), who’s the first Sikh woman to lift for Team GB and a reigning Commonwealth champion. Host Tinie can’t resist comparing kilograms with her — she can deadlift 167.5kg (26st) — but when she talks about her warrior cry as she prepares for a competition, that’s when things get really interesting: ‘When I say warrior cry, I’m calling on my Sikh ancestry, because this is the time I’m going into battle.’ Hip-hop-inspired artist Amar Stewart finds getting to know Karenjeet also helps him to reconnect with his own culture. It’s a match made in heaven.
CHANNEL 5 first visited Cannon Hall Farm back in 2018, and it’s always a treat to catch up with Rob and Dave Nicholson and all their animals. This time, Springwatch’s Martin Hughes-Games (pictured) will be helping to wrangle the sheep and other farmyard familiars as he joins regular host Helen Skelton for another five nights of fun on the farm, live from South Yorkshire. This wonderfully restful, feelgood series is always packed with ideas on how to bring the countryside into your own life, and this week they include advice about turning gardens into butterfly havens. We learn the secrets of hay-baling, bee-keeping and knife-making, and there are recipe ideas from Cannon Hall Farm’s resident chef, Tim Bilton, to get us eating healthy and local food. Dr Amir Khan will be investigating hay fever remedies to see what really works, and revealing why we should all be eating plenty of watercress. Plus, pop star turned farmer J.B. Gill files roving reports from across the UK, meeting roof thatchers in Norfolk, cheese-makers in Tottenham and sustainable crisp-makers in Herefordshire.
