Post: sir Andy revealed Maggie May’s passing on social media

ALOnG with fellow Border terrier Rusty, Sir Andy Murray’s beloved Maggie May formed one half of the cutest doubles teams in tennis.

But the two-time Wimbledon champion told of his heartache as he broke the news his mischievous pet dog he called Maggie Mayhem had passed away.

Sir Andy, 35, took to social media at the weekend to pay tribute to the scruffy pup, who became an internet celebrity in her own right and once boasted her own Instagram following of nearly 30,000.

The former world number one uploaded an image of himself cuddling Maggie May, who had lived with him and wife Kim since 2008, telling fans: ‘Today our family said goodbye to this amazing little dog. She was a huge part of our family and our first pet so this really hurts.’ He added: ‘Give your pets a big cuddle tonight cause it stings when you can’t anymore. Thanks Maggie Mayhem you were an absolute star.’

In between working his way back from a nagging hip injury, Sir Andy proved devoted to his dogs over the years, even showing off his ‘dog voice’ to the delight of comics Rob Beckett and Romesh Ranganathan.

Within hours of revealing Maggie May’s passing, Sir Andy’s post had attracted more than 104,000 messages of condolence, including support from fellow professionals such as German star Sabine Lisicki, who wrote: ‘Dogs are the best. We don’t deserve their love.’

Fellow pro Jessica Korda wrote: ‘So sorry for your loss.’
