Frozen vs Lion King: Who’ll win song contest?

- Daily Mail Reporter

IT might have won both an Oscar and a Grammy, but how will Let It Go from Disney’s Frozen fare in a battle of the best-loved animated movie songs?

BBC Radio 2 is asking listeners to choose the ultimate animated movie song from the past 50 years – with the winner to be revealed later this summer.

Presenter OJ Borg launched the poll on The Zoe Ball Breakfast Show yesterday, sharing a shortlist of 50 songs.

Alongside 2013’s Let It Go, contenders include Elton John’s Can You Feel The Love Tonight from The Lion King, Robin Williams’s Friend Like Me from Aladdin, Billy Crystal and John Goodman’s If I Didn’t Have You from Monsters Inc, and Randy Newman’s muchloved You’ve Got A Friend In Me from Toy Story.

Borg said: ‘These are the songs we loved when we were kids and when we are grown up we start to get our own children into them. It’s just a joy every time you hear one.’ The shortlist was created by BBC Pop Radio’s movie critics James King, Rhianna Dhillon and Ali Plumb. Mr King said choosing the shortlist was ‘tough’ but ‘so much fun’. He added: ‘Some of the biggest songs of the last few years have been from animations and so many are just part of the fabric of pop culture. It was also great to revisit a few I’d forgotten about.’ Miss Dhillon said: ‘We had to make some tough decisions about which songs should make the shortlist. Hopefully, you’ll find your favourites in our shortlist and discover some new ones too.’ Borg will reveal the results in a Radio 2 show on August 29. The Ultimate Animated Movie Song vote is open now and closes at 12pm on August 8.
