Ashtray attack woman is set free by court

- By Gordon Currie

A SERIAL domestic abuser who left her partner scarred for life after stabbing him several times has been allowed to walk free from court.

Cheyenne Cummings jumped on Mark McLuckie’s back before smashing his head with an ashtray and stabbing him repeatedly with shards of glass.

The 27-year-old had taken a cocktail of drink and drugs when she carried out the attack which left Mr McLuckie permanently disfigured.

The High Court in Dundee was told Cummings had a prior conviction for a domestic attack on a previous boyfriend.

Mr McLuckie sustained cuts to his neck, back and shoulder, behind his ear, and feet, and he needed a number of stitches in hospital.

Cummings was given a community payback order and placed under supervision for two years, as well as being ordered to carry out 300 hours of unpaid work.

Cummings, from Bonnybridge, near Falkirk, admitted attacking her partner to his severe injury and permanent disfigurement in Denny, on November 21, 2020. She also admitted breaching a bail order by approaching him in December 2020.

Scottish Conservative justice spokesman Jamie Greene said: ‘This is an all-too typical case of soft-touch justice under the SNP.

‘This was an attack that will have left permanent damage on the victim and a community sentence simply does not go far enough.

‘The hundreds of hours of unpaid work handed down to the offender are at risk of not being completed given we know the SNP have been happy to write off hundreds of thousands of hours worth of community sentencing punishments.’
