Giggs ‘left me naked in a hotel corridor’

Ex-lover tells footballer’s trial of row after she accused him of ‘manically’ flirting with women

- By James Tozer

RYAN Giggs was having ‘full-on’ affairs with eight other women during his ‘toxic’ six-year on-off relationship with Kate Greville, a court heard yesterday.

The PR executive, 38, made the discovery after accessing the football star’s iPad having ‘made it my mission to find out the truth’ about his other lovers, she told police.

During what she called a ‘cycle of abuse’, she said how Giggs ‘dragged’ her out of the bedroom of a five-star hotel – leaving her naked in the corridor – after she accused him of ‘manically’ flirting with other women during a night out.

He then threw a bag containing her laptop at her head, giving her a ‘massive lump’, Manchester Crown Court heard.

When she attempted to leave him over his alleged flings and ‘controlling’ behaviour, Giggs would ‘bombard’ her with up to 50 messages an hour and threatened to ruin her career, she claimed.

Eventually she got into his iPad as she ‘needed to know the truth’ – and the ‘reality’ of his cheating was ‘way worse than I could imagine’, she said.

‘There were eight women he was having affairs with over all the years he had been with me,’ she said. ‘Full-on relationships with these women right from the very beginning, since 2014.

She also found messages the former Manchester United star had sent to friends branding her a ‘s**g’, she said. She said planned for a clean break – secretly signing up for a flat where he couldn’t find her and talking to a lawyer about getting custody of their golden retriever puppy.

But after another row on November 1, 2020, she ‘blurted out’ that she had seen his messages – sparking the chain of events that led to an alleged headbutt that night.

Miss Greville’s sister Emma was ‘deliberately elbowed’ by Giggs as she attempted to intervene, the prosecution claimed on Monday.

Giggs, 48, is charged with controlling and coercive behaviour against Kate Greville between August 2017 and November 2020, assaulting Kate Greville, causing her actual bodily harm, and common assault of Emma Greville at his home in Worsley, Greater Manchester, on November 1, 2020. He denies all the charges, Details of Miss Greville’s account of the couple’s ‘turbulent’ relationship were seen by jurors in a video of her police interview made just over two weeks after Giggs allegedly headbutted her during their final confrontation.

She said she was unhappily married when she met Giggs while doing PR work for one of his firms in 2013. During a media interview she helped set up, she recalled how Giggs was ‘literally staring at me across a table’, adding: ‘It was not a comfortable stare. I was unnerved by it – but it was also quite flattering.’

After that, Giggs would repeatedly email her photographs of wherever he was, she said. She said that when her mother then asked her to get a signed shirt from Giggs ‘that would be the start of something’. They began spending more time together, and Giggs started to confide in her that his marriage was unhappy, too, Miss Greville said, describing how she began to see him as her ‘saviour’. ‘He was like a best friend, a soul mate, he was the one to save me from that marriage,’ she added. ‘It was more than a sexual thing.’ Miss Greville said it was ‘like he was my best friend’ – but at the same time there were ‘definite red flags’, in particular allegedly lying that he had ended his own marriage to Stacey Giggs. ‘It was just complete mind games,’ she said.

They repeatedly broke up when she lost patience, she said, but Giggs would turn up at her flat and demand to see her.

Miss Greville said when she ignored him, he shouted that she was ‘a whore’, demanding: ‘Have you got somebody in there?’

Eventually she moved to Abu Dhabi to ‘get away from him’, only for Giggs to ‘pursue’ her there, she said. Despite bust-ups and allegations of infidelity, Miss Greville said she always went back to him.

‘It was literally like I was addicted to him,’ she told police. ‘I couldn’t get him out of my head.’ The affair became public following media reports in 2016, after which Miss Greville said she was ‘hounded’ by paparazzi.

She said Giggs flew to meet her in nearby Dubai and told her: ‘Let’s start a family, you are the only person I want to be with.’ She moved back to Manchester, but his attitude became ‘off’.

Later she found out that ‘he was dating another girl’, she added. ‘I was absolutely devastated.’

She said ‘the first time he was aggressive’ to her was when he ‘flipped’ during a night out when they returned to Dubai for a holiday after she accused him of messaging other women.

In their hotel room that night she claimed Giggs grabbed her by the wrists and ‘literally dragged’ her naked across the floor before he threw her and her belongings into the corridor. Miss Greville said she was ‘left humiliated and embarrassed’ as she found herself with no clothes on in the middle of the corridor.

Also during a holiday in Dubai, Miss Greville said she received an

anonymous email from a man with a naked photo of Giggs he allegedly found on his wife’s phone.

But she said whenever she tried to confront Giggs he would blame her, saying it was just lies, which left her feeling paranoid.

‘I was thinking, “God, is it me?” ‘I was just gullible, I guess.’

Miss Greville said they still had ‘sex all the time’ even during their regular splits. ‘He was just using me for sex,’ she added. ‘There was never a time when he did not want to have sex.’

Miss Greville said if she stopped replying to his calls and messages, he would imply that her work for a PR firm used by his businesses could be in jeopardy.

Giving evidence, she told how in 2019 she discovered that Giggs was in a relationship with his current girlfriend Zara Charles and blocked him on social media.

But she became ‘scared’ when he ‘threatened’ to post messages about her to a work WhatsApp group, and relented. ‘He could have sent anything,’ she told the court. ‘He wasn’t very rational.’

Miss Greville said during a night out in London in December 2019 they had a row about how he was flirting with other women while ignoring her. Back at their hotel, Miss Greville said: ‘I was going to sleep and he kicked me in the back so hard I fell off the bed. He grabbed me again, dragged me into the suite but got my bag and my laptop and threw it at my head.’ Moments later, Giggs became ‘really nice’ again, she

‘Kicked me so hard I fell off the bed’

said. But in the morning she found a ‘massive lump on my head’.

When the first Covid lockdown was imposed in early 2020, she moved into his £1.7million mansion in Worsley after he promised they would buy a puppy.

However she claimed Giggs would treat her ‘like his housemaid’, telling her she was stacking the dishwasher wrong or making the beds incorrectly.

After he arrived from a night out, she had ‘an intuition something was wrong’, she said.

‘I’ve never seen anyone so drunk,’ she added, describing how Giggs passed out on the bed.

She said she took the opportunity to look at messages on his mobile for the first time as she knew his password – and found he had allegedly been with another on-off lover that evening.

But she said Giggs ‘begged’ her to stay, telling her, ‘Let’s get engaged’, and saying he was going to buy her a ring from the society jeweller Boodles.

However, after she was told Giggs had taken another woman whom she suspected he was cheating with to meet his family she checked his iPad – and learned the scale of his alleged infidelity.

She also claimed Giggs used to call her Stacey, his ex-wife’s name, as the ‘ultimate insult’.

Jurors were shown a photograph from February 2020 Miss Greville had taken which she said showed bruises on her arm and her knee, allegedly received during an incident in Dubai when she tried to leave their hotel room after an argument, only for Giggs to stand in her way and grab her bag from her arm. Asked who was responsible for her injuries, Miss Greville replied: ‘Ryan Giggs.’

The trial continues.
