No more signings for now, declares Pep

- JACK GAUGHAN

PEP GUARDIOLA has ruled out Manchester City signing another left-back as they complete the £11million capture of Anderlecht’s Sergio Gomez. The 21-year-old Spaniard had been a target during their pursuit of Marc Cucurella — who joined Chelsea from Brighton last week — but earmarked as a ‘development’ player, with City planning to loan him to sister club Girona in La Liga. Guardiola was looking at Borussia Dortmund’s Raphael Guerreiro and Rayan Ait-Nouri at Wolves — while reports have also linked him with interest in Arsenal’s Kieran Tierney — but now he feels Gomez can make an impact at the Etihad this season. Gomez was in Manchester undergoing a medical last night. The Spain Under-21 player, a product of Barcelona’s academy, was backed by former Anderlecht boss Vincent Kompany. ‘He’s so young, open to learn, I spoke with Vinny about him,’ said Guardiola. ‘He was a No 10 like Oleksandr Zinchenko, now he adapts. He has to improve in some departments but he’s perfect for what he need.’ Asked if the champions are still in the market for a left-back, Guardiola replied: ‘No. After Cucurella, we spent time to watch Sergio more. I said this is perfect, the price, young player, desire, go for it.’ The City manager added that unless players leave before the end of the window, there will be no more additions to the squad. Barcelona remain keen on Bernardo Silva. ‘If we have a problem with Kyle (Walker) and Joao (Cancelo) we have players who can replace them,’ added Guardiola. Kalvin Phillips and Cole Palmer are both likely to

miss today’s home game against Bournemouth.
