Fans’ night of shame

-

AS a Scot I am ashamed of the elements of the Tartan Army who loudly booed the national anthem at the match against Northern Ireland at Hampden on Tuesday night (Mail online). This is unnecessary at the best of times but considering the King’s health problems it is unforgiveable.

These morons really should think again because they are an embarrassment to the country. They should remember there are millions of people north of the Border who strongly support the monarchy and if republics are so wonderful why are thousands of people fleeing them to come here?

Considering the poor form the team is in, Scotland fans have more to worry them as they head to Germany for the Euro finals this summer.

ROBERT WILSON, newarthill, lanarkshire.

I TUNED in to BBC Scotland on Tuesday evening thinking I might watch Scotland play Northern Ireland but I only lasted till the end of the national anthem.

Such was the volume and bile of the Scottish booing of God Save the King that the anthem was inaudible and as a Scot the shame of enduring this pathetic show of bad manners caused me to switch off.

To think that our King is experiencing poor health just now and this was also the singing of our footballing guests/visitors’ anthem, the Scots let their country down badly.

There were many youngsters in the crowd and perhaps their parents will be pleased that such anti-English behaviour is being bred into them for the future.

It’s probably fortunate that most Scottish international soccer games are not on terrestrial channels for all to see.

STEWART BRUCE, Hawick.
