MISSING . . .

-

THE DAILY MAIL offers the opportunity to re-establish contact with long-lost relatives and friends. Each week, MONICA PORTER features the story of someone trying to find a missing loved one and a tale of people reunited. Produced in conjunction with the voluntary tracing service Searching For A Memory, run by Gill Whitley.

RETIRED teacher Graham Starkey, 85, who lives in Rochdale, has written to us: ‘After finishing a three-year Joint Course for teachers of all subjects at the City of Leeds & Carnegie College in 1964, we were sent out to “teach the world”. To mark the occasion, a group of us are holding a 60th-year reunion. ‘While at college, the men were housed in three hostels: Cavendish, Fairfax and the old manor house in the picture, the Grange. We have found a dozen people, but would love to be joined by others from that year. The reunion will be held at a Leeds hotel over two days in late June. ‘We’re looking for Alan Barlow, Dennis Farnsworth, John Galloway, Ted Gentry, Taff Hamer, Bryan Liggins, Dave Mabbut, Terry Nicholls, Ian Muir, Jeff Strutt and others. ‘Having previously worked and done National Service, I was six years older than these “kids” who came straight from school, but just as daft. Those, such as me, whose main subject was physical education, had P.E. lectures on the Carnegie campus and, for their third year, resided in Carnegie College. ‘After qualifying, I played rugby league alongside my teaching career. On retiring, I teamed up with David Bryant to run holidays abroad for lawn bowlers.’
