SNP status quo blow

-

As the fog clears around the resignation of scotland’s First Minister Humza Yousaf, it becomes clear Messrs sturgeon, swinney and Flynn were the ‘Old Guard’ who ensured Yousaf jettisoned his plan to do a deal with the Alba Party.

It would have been inconceivable for sturgeon to allow Alex salmond any influence on sNP strategy.

Further, it now seems highly likely John swinney will be crowned leader and First Minister and will endeavour to do a deal with the Greens.

One might assume Kate Forbes has the political antennae to realise her time will be better spent on the backbenches until the election in 2026 when John swinney will step down after an electoral drubbing and hopefully the Greens’ influence will also be diluted.

For those that thought the departure of Yousaf would herald a brighter scottish future, I fear disappointment is the only outcome. With the Greens by his side yet again wielding disproportionate power, swinney will allow scotland to sink further into the swamp of economic stagnation, infrastructure incompetence, wealth destruction and the erosion of public sector services.

The same John swinney who voted for the Gender Reform Act, the Deposit Return scheme and the Hate Crime Act. A leopard never changes its spots.

RICHARD allison, Edinburgh.

IF YOU want scotland to stay in the rut it is presently in then vote for John swinney as he will plod on with our failed education system which he devised and continue to tax scotland higher than the rest of the UK whilst closing down our oil and gas industry.

John swinney will ensure there will be no change from the current SNP dogma and failed government and surround himself with old faces to maintain the SNP clique. scotland deserves better.

DENNIS FORBES GRATTAN,

aberdeen.

HUMZA has gone. Good riddance. Whoever follows will be equally useless. We deserve better.

RONALD JAMES, Kirriemuir, angus.

WILL it be ‘Honest John’ for First Minister, or will we just call him, ‘sturgeon Mk 3’. Minus the charisma.

BILL DOUGLAS, lanark.
