It’s a dog’s life
Monumental celebrations
From the 24-26 June, The National Wallace Monument is set to mark Scotland’s Year of Innovation, Architecture & Design by celebrating the work of its architect John Thomas Rochead, with a weekend of special activities including a display of his original architectural designs for the building. The three-day event entitled A Victorian Masterpiece will commence on the 155th Anniversary of the Laying of the Foundation Stone for the Monument, and will allow visitors to experience the excitement of 1861 as work started on the building which would commemorate William Wallace. Over 200 dogs applied, but there could only be one chosen to be VisitScotland’s Ambassadog. And that dog is George, a one-year-old golden retriever from Glasgow. Sisters Victoria and Emma Rae put George forward for the role after VisitScotland launched the search for a canine ambassador to represent the spirit of Scotland around the world. George will be in high demand to attend red carpet events as a VID (or ‘very important dog’) and social media star as ambassadog for Scotland.
