Albyn School

-

Albyn School was founded in 1867. Located in the west end of Aberdeen, Albyn is the only school in the city with boarding facilities for 16-18 year olds. Albyn is an independent co-educational school of 700 pupils aged from five to 18 together, along with a nursery for 120 children aged from two to five. The small classes and highly qualified staff create a strong sense of community and nurture academic success. The Sunday Times ranks Albyn School as having the best academic results of all co-educational independent and state schools in Aberdeen for the past five years. Leavers attain places at universities such as Edinburgh, St Andrews, Glasgow, Oxford, Cambridge and the London School of Economics, as well as the city’s top universities; Aberdeen and Robert Gordon’s. Albyn provides the pupils with a choice of over 100 extra-curricular activities, including 27 weekly musical groups and over 30 sports teams. The school offers a range of artistic, literary, scientific, mathematical and debating activities. Pupils are also heavily involved in charity and community work with a very high intake for the Duke of Edinburgh Award scheme. The school has been embracing the future through the construction and evolvement of new buildings, subjects and sports. New subjects such as Engineering Science, Economics and Mandarin, along with sports including skiing and rowing, have entered the curriculum. The school’s brand new Engineering Science building has recently been completed. Full-time and weekly boarding accommodation is available within Albyn School’s three-story granite boarding house, just a five minute walk from the school. The boarding house can accommodate a small number of pupils in single or shared bedrooms, each with en-suite bathroom facilities. This home-from-home as part of the school is a place of security, fun and friendship that will better prepare pupils for whatever path they choose when they leave Albyn. Albyn School strives to do its very best to make sure that your child receives the best education possible.
