Dollar Academy
Dollar is recognised as one of the UK’s leading schools, distinguished by its excellence in pastoral care, co-curricular provision and classroom teaching.
It is a day and boarding school for boys and girls aged five to 18. Pupils study the Scottish curriculum and work towards Highers and Advanced Highers. The academic expectations here are high and pupils benefit from the excellent resources available.
Dollar Academy has a single, 70-acre campus with extensive indoor and outdoor sports facilities, which include acres of sports fields, pitches and courts; a well-equipped fitness suite; a full-length swimming pool, with private pool-time available for boarding pupils; and a rifle range. The main school building is a striking neo-classical design by the eminent Scottish architect William Henry Playfair, and the numerous other buildings on campus are a mixture of period and modern design, including specialised teaching areas for languages, science, music and art, large performance venues and first-class accommodation for boarders.
The 200-year-old school is famous for its world championship-winning pipe band. Over 160 pupils practise the instrument and tuition is available at all levels, with the opportunity to participate in national competitions. The sight and sound of the pipes are synonymous with Dollar Academy; each day during the summer term begins with the massed pipes and drums performing on the school lawns.
Dollar Academy is a very popular option for Scottish families. Entry can be arranged at any stage in a child’s education, with many children opting to join before their senior school examination years. Whether you are considering a possible change in school for your child now or at some point in the future, this school is worth your consideration. Boarding scholarships and fee-assisted places are available for hardworking and ambitious children.
