Glenalmond College
Glenalmond College provides an inspiring environment for learning. As one of Scotland’s leading boarding and day schools, the long-standing tradition of excellence and achievement continues. The school, for girls and boys aged 12 to 18, is located on a stunning 300-acre rural campus just eight miles from Perth.
The academic focus of the school is clear. All pupils study for GCSEs and A levels, with a curriculum spanning 25 subjects in the Sixth Form. Every year a good number of pupils receive offers of places at Oxford and Cambridge – another three in 2016 – and a high proportion get places at Russell Group universities. Throughout their school career every pupil is helped to recognise and develop their academic strengths.
This academic emphasis is set firmly within an ethos of all-round education, recognising and developing the talents and abilities of all pupils. Music and drama are an important part of life at Glenalmond, with major productions involving almost every pupil either on stage or behind the scenes. Sport is not just for the elite athletes, although they are very well supported and there are a number of national and even world champions within the pupil body.
Glenalmond is a friendly and welcoming school, and the sense of community is tangible. All full-time teachers live on campus, and both boarding and day pupils benefit from learning in a boarding community, with its extended timetable, outstanding pastoral care and commitment to the development of the whole person.
The ethos of Glenalmond is clear – to create an inspiring environment for young people to learn and grow. When pupils leave Glenalmond, they do so with confidence and maturity, and with an attitude towards life that will enable them realise their ambitions.
